Project Details
R.J. Forbes Painting partnered with Clayco to deliver comprehensive surface preparation and coating services for a new 1.4 million-square-foot Target Distribution Center in Hudson, NH. The project scope encompassed both interior and exterior applications, including pressure washing and coating 30,000 square feet of exterior concrete wall panels, priming and finish-painting 30,000 square feet of interior concrete walls, and preparing and coating all 451 steel roof support columns. The massive undertaking required 9,256 gallons of premium Sherwin-Williams paint systems to ensure durable, high-performance protection suitable for heavy commercial distribution operations.
Project Challenge
The project presented significant logistical and scheduling challenges that required careful coordination and execution. Working within an active construction site environment demanded strict adherence to safety protocols while maintaining productivity across multiple work areas. The team faced a compressed 3-month timeline to complete all exterior work before cold weather conditions would halt operations, with the additional constraint of daytime-only work schedules and no Sunday operations due to local bylaws. Coordinating the surface preparation and multi-coat application process across 60,000 square feet of wall surfaces plus 451 structural columns, while maintaining quality standards and meeting Clayco’s strict project deadlines, required exceptional project management and skilled execution.
Project Solution
R.J. Forbes deployed experienced professional craftworkers who maintained rigorous safety standards throughout the active construction environment while delivering on an accelerated schedule. The team followed a systematic approach: pressure-washed all exterior concrete panels to ensure proper adhesion, then applied primer and a finish coat. Interior operations proceeded in parallel, with proper surface preparation of concrete walls and steel columns before applying specified Sherwin-Williams coating systems. By strategically managing workflow between interior and exterior areas and maximizing productive daytime hours, the team completed the entire 9,256-gallon coating project within the 3-month window. The result was a facility with clean, uniform, durable coatings throughout—ready to withstand the demands of heavy commercial distribution operations while meeting all of Clayco’s quality and timeline requirements.
